A 20-year-old Pacoima man was shot and killed and another man wounded in what police believe was a gang-related incident on Desmond Street early Saturday.

The two men were shot as they were standing with a crowd on the 13800 block of Desmond Street in a Pacoima neighborhood, police said.

Police said the gunman began shooting at the crowd from across the street and continued to fire as he approached the group.

Officers from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Foothill Division and a Fire Department ambulance arrived minutes later. Both victims were taken to Providence-Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, where the Pacoima man was pronounced dead. The other man, a 19-year-old from Arleta, was treated and released, according to a nursing supervisor.

Police declined to identify the victims pending notification of families.

LAPD Sgt. Frank Reynoso of the Foothill Division said the gunman fled on foot and no weapon was found.

Reynoso said police are investigating the crime as a gang-related incident based on information from several witnesses.
