Naval Center Salutes 2 Employees

Leslie Karr of Oak View and Peter Shack of Oxnard won 1997 Employee of the Year honors from the Port Hueneme-based Naval Facilities Engineering Service Center.

Karr was chosen for her work as the science and technology team leader for the facility’s Environmental Restoration Development Branch. She was instrumental in developing innovative, cost-effective technologies for the Navy, including a leak detection system for massive underground storage tanks.

Shack, an engineer in the Technical Implementation Branch, was selected for developing the Environmental Department’s management information system, which provides financial and technical information for past, current and proposed projects.

Club Gives $600 in Donations to 2 Groups * The Handicapped Equestrian Learning Program and the Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence received donations totaling $600 from the Ventura County Chevys club.

The Moorpark-based H.E.L.P. provides horse riding lessons to mentally and physically challenged youth, some of whom participate in Special Olympics events.

The Ventura-based coalition provides 24-hour hotline support for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.

Camarillo Video Company Receives Award * Camarillo-based Videogenics Video Productions was awarded the Crystal Award of Excellence at the 1997 Communicator Awards Video and Film Competition. Videogenics won top honors for its promotional training program video, which it produced for Kinko’s. The Communicator Awards is a national organization founded to recognize outstanding work in the communication field.
