Fluor Daniel Gets Going on Highway Project

Share

Fluor Corp. said its Fluor Daniel unit has started construction on a 28.5-mile highway in South Carolina, after the state received the necessary financing.

The engineering company broke ground on the $291 million-Conway Bypass project Monday. Fluor was awarded the contract in January 1995 on the project, the first major public-private partnership project to be constructed in the state.

The new highway will stretch from Highway 501, 10 miles north of Conway, to Myrtle Beach, the company said. Local design and construction companies are being employed, and employment on the site is expected to peak at 400, Fluor said. Completion is expected in 2001.
