Patten Scores 18 as El Dorado Holds Down Century, 51-34

Stephanie Patten scored 18 points for El Dorado in a 51-34 victory over host Century in an Empire League game Tuesday.

Patten also limited Aprile Powell, the fourth-leading scorer in the county with a 17.9 points average, to two first-half points as El Dorado (16-3, 4-0) outscored the Centurions in the second quarter, 21-4.

Powell finished the game with 10 points.

Jennie Bluth added six points and 14 rebounds for El Dorado, which was swept by Century (12-7, 2-2) last season.

In other Empire League games:

Cypress 53, Loara 42--Lisa Choi scored 13 of her 16 points in the fourth quarter, as Cypress (9-9, 2-2) broke open the game, scoring 21 points in the final quarter. Evalani Tagaloa added 14 points for Cypress.

Shawnna Walker led Loara (12-7, 2-2) with 16 points and Sandra Sanchez added 10.

Kennedy 69, Katella 57--Cira Wright had 22 points and 11 rebounds to lead Kennedy. Allison Chow had 12 points for the Fighting Irish (15-7, 2-2).

In the Century League:

Orange 51, Santa Ana Valley 40--Priscilla Deason led all scorers with 18 points for Orange (11-6, 2-2). Santa Ana Valley (3-16, 0-4) was led by Lisa Sanchez with 12 points.

In the Express League:

Liberty Christian 51, Norwalk Pioneer Baptist 47--Crissy Davis had 20 points and 18 rebounds and Stephanie Wu had 17 points and seven steals for Liberty Christian (10-4, 3-0).

In the Orange League:

No. 1 Brea Olinda 88, Savanna 12--Chelsea Trotter scored 17 points and Amanda Strum had 15 points and eight rebounds for Brea Olinda (15-1, 3-0), which outscored Savanna in the first quarter, 31-0.

Western 39, Magnolia 38--Lia Eleoupolus made two free throws with seven seconds remaining to clinch the victory for Western (3-12, 1-2). Eleoupolus finished with 18 points. Krystal Smith led Magnolia (7-9, 0-3) with 15 points and 16 rebounds.

In the Pacific Coast League:

Aliso Niguel 58, University 40--Kristin Moorhouse scored 26 points and grabbed 14 rebounds and Leslie Douty had 13 rebounds for first-place Aliso Niguel (10-8, 4-0).

Costa Mesa 40, Laguna Hills 37--Kelly Chapin and Kim Nguyen each scored eight points for Costa Mesa, which outscored Laguna Hills, 16-7, in the final quarter. The Mustangs are 7-13, 3-1.

Estancia 65, Laguna Beach 19--Francia Diaz scored 27 points and Lisa Steinfeld added 12 for Estancia. The Eagles (5-14, 1-3) led, 32-10, at halftime.

In the Sea View League:

No. 9 El Toro 56, Irvine 55--Giuliana Mendiola, who scored a game-high 19 points, made a three-point shot with two seconds remaining for El Toro. It was the first lead of the game for the Chargers (16-2, 4-0), who trailed by 19 points early in the third quarter. Mendiola also had eight rebounds and six assists.

Lauren O’Hara led Irvine (11-6, 3-1) with 15 points and Jody Carlson added 14.
