School Panel Votes to Sell Surplus Campus
The Simi Valley school board has declared the district’s former Walnut Grove Elementary School a surplus property--the first official step before selling the site.
The 5-0 vote came at the board’s meeting Tuesday night.
Though the current tenant, Grace Brethren Schools, has expressed interest in buying the building, the site will be sold to the highest bidder May 19 for no less than $1.25 million.
This is the second property the Simi Valley Unified School District Board of Trustees has declared surplus in the past two weeks. The board voted to sell Belwood Elementary School to the highest bidder in April. The minimum price for that property was set at $1.2 million.
The district closed some of its schools during the 1980s during an enrollment slump, and it now needs the money to modernize its remaining 29 campuses, school officials said.
