Two more suspects have been arrested in connection with the robbery and shooting death of George Blackwell, an assistant principal at Warren High School in Downey, police announced Thursday.

Alex Freddy Vega, 42, of Los Angeles and Monica Mary Chavez, 40, a janitor at the high school, are the second and third suspects arrested in the Jan. 12 slaying of Blackwell at his home in the Alamitos Beach area.

Gilbert Raul Rubio, 36, a Los Angeles man with a long arrest record, was arrested on the night of the murder. Long Beach police consider him the primary suspect.

Vega, identified as a friend of Rubio, was arrested Tuesday night. Chavez, described as Rubio’s girlfriend, was arrested Wednesday night.

“We believe all three suspects went to the victim’s home together to commit a robbery,” said police spokeswoman Karen Kerr Owens.

Vega and Chavez are being held on suspicion of robbery and murder, as is Rubio. All three are expected to be arraigned today.
