FISH REPORT

FRESHWATER

CASTAIC LAKE--A little bit of everything. Eddie Casillas and son, of Sylmar, eight trout, largest 3 pounds 12 ounces, at 12 feet in lower lake on Power Bait. Pat Russo, North Hollywood, 15-pound striped bass, on Bass Trix lure. Anthony Chutuk, Granada Hills, 15-8 striper, on AC plug. Matthew Brocont and Steve Brown, Agoura Hills, four largemouth bass, largest four pounds, and five striped bass, largest 13 pounds.

LAKE PIRU--Trout biting at east end, with trollers using Needlefish lures doing best. Some limits. Largemouth bass biting sporadically at about 40 feet, with fish averaging three pounds striking jigs and plastic worms.

PYRAMID LAKE--Striped bass biting but are on the small side and not especially active on the surface. Anchovies getting most. Some largemouths and smallmouths reported, but the bite is on the slow side.

LAKE CACHUMA--Trout biting, with trollers using Needlefish lures and night crawler-flasher combos doing best. Red-ear perch biting at east end, night crawlers getting most. Largemouth bass fair one day, poor the next.

LAKE CASITAS--Several large bass. Bill Siemental, Castaic, 10 bass, largest 13 pounds 8 ounces, on Castaic Softbait. John Shull, Ojai, 13- and 12-pound bass, on Castaic Softbait. Jesse Link, Lomita, 10-pound bass on, you guessed it, Castaic Softbait. Several smaller bass taken on plastic worms, crawdads and waterdogs. Catfish and trout bites fair.

CORONA LAKE--Trout surprisingly active, with limits or near-limits the rule for the first time in weeks. Top catch, a 15-7 rainbow by Mike Tidlund, Riverside, on a Roostertail from a boat.

SANTA ANA RIVER LAKES--Don Spencer, Orange, took home a five-trout stringer totaling 53 pounds. Night crawlers did the trick. Top catch, a 54-pound sturgeon by Louie Cervantes, Anaheim, on Power Bait.

IRVINE LAKE--Trout, trout and more trout. Top fish a 12-4 catch by Brian Hessler, North Hollywood, on rainbow Power Bait. Bass bite fair as the fish have moved into shallower water, biting on plastic worms and spinnerbaits fished at about 10 feet. Some catfish.

LAGUNA NIGUEL LAKE--Trout to three pounds biting fairly steadily. Inflated night crawlers and glitter Power Bait getting most. Roland Parker, Costa Mesa, 6-pound 2-ounce trout, on a white mini-jig via float tube. Bass bite slow to fair, with night crawlers getting most.

LAKE SKINNER--Top catch, an 28-pound striper by Mike Allen, San Bernardino, on a Producer plug. Several stripers over 10 pounds reported. Trout bite fair on mini-jigs at Ramp 2.

LAKE PERRIS--Strictly bass. Rich Iannolo, Menifee, 14-8 and 11-8 bass, on Castaic Softbait. Leon Rand, Perris, 12-pound bass, on waterdog in marina. Paul Porter, San Bernardino, 11-4 bass, on waterdog at Rock Climber’s Cove.

SILVERWOOD LAKE--Largemouth bass biting at about 40 feet off points and ledges, with purple plastic worms weighted with a split-shot getting most. Those with fish finders should look for balled-up shad because that’s where the bass are.

SAN DIEGO CITY LAKES--El Capitan yielded a 9-4 bass, but the bite is only fair--300-plus fishermen reported catching 104 bass, mostly on the small side. Miramar and Murray fair to good for trout, with the largest a three-pounder on Power Bait at Murray. Lower Otay opens Wednesday, which has bass, panfish and catfish fishermen pretty excited. A state-record 85-pound 9-ounce blue catfish was pulled out of the lake last year.

LAKE CUYAMACA--Limits of trout fairly common despite 38-degree water. Mary and Dwayne Sisson, Alpine, 10 trout in about two hours, on inflated night crawlers and Sierra Gold at the flats.

MORRO BAY (Virg’s Landing)--10 anglers (1 boat): 25 red snapper, 125 rockcod.

AVILA BAY (Patriot Sportfishing)--6 anglers (1 boat): 18 red rockcod, 33 rockfish, 39 rockcod.

SANTA BARBARA (Sea Landing)--9 anglers (1 boat): 16 calico bass, 3 sand bass, 1 sculpin, 14 mackerel, 18 red snapper, 81 rockfish.

OXNARD (Cisco’s)--27 anglers (2 boats): 11 yellowtail, 3 bonito, 1 lingcod, 32 red snapper, 154 rockfish, 8 sculpin, 1 whitefish.

PORT HUENEME--54 anglers (2 boats): 127 rockfish, 5 bonito, 11 sculpin, 1 sheephead, 4 whitefish, 3 yellowtail.

MARINA DEL REY--115 anglers (5 boats): 28 yellowtail, 4 halibut, 12 sand bass, 6 calico bass, 198 sculpin, 5 red snapper, 6 bonito, 1 sheephead.

REDONDO BEACH--37 anglers (2 boats): 23 calico bass, 28 sand bass, 3 halibut, 1 black seabass (released), 30 perch, 85 mackerel, 40 rockfish.

SAN PEDRO (L.A. Harbor Sportfishing)--16 anglers (1 boat): 13 whitefish, 11 calico bass, 5 sand bass, 6 sculpin, 3 sheephead, 1 halibut, 1 barracuda. (22nd St. Landing)--11 anglers (1 boat): 3 calico bass, 1 barracuda, 9 sand bass, 8 sculpin, 4 whitefish, 6 blue perch, 31 rockfish, 12 red snapper.

LONG BEACH--42 anglers (2 boats): 6 barracuda, 12 calico bass, 18 sand bass, 15 whitefish, 12 sheephead, 17 perch, 9 sculpin, 42 rockfish, 5 sole. (Marina Sportfishing)--22 anglers (2 boats): 2 yellowtail, 3 sand bass, 9 whitefish, 8 sheephead, 6 perch, 21 sculpin, 150 rockfish, 1 cowcod, 186 rockcod.

SEAL BEACH--15 anglers (1 boat): 3 sand bass, 1 whitefish, 1 sheephead, 3 perch, 6 sculpin, 220 rockfish, 6 salmon.

NEWPORT BEACH (Newport Landing)--21 anglers (2 boats): 15 sand bass, 10 calico bass, 30 rockfish, 42 sculpin, 21 bonito, 6 sheephead, 3 perch. (Davey’s Locker)--20 anglers (1 boat): 10 calico bass, 19 sand bass, 1 halibut, 3 rockfish.

DANA WHARF--24 anglers (2 boats): 98 calico bass, 52 sand bass, 3 mackerel, 3 sheephead.
