Health-Care Groups, Students Win Grants

The Swift Foundation has awarded grants ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 to a number of Ventura County health-care groups and four students. The nonprofit organization, formed in 1985, evaluates the health-care needs of the community and provides money twice yearly to organizations it considers worthwhile and to students pursuing employment in the medical field.

Moorpark College students Feather Addington and Diana Sue Brister, and Ventura College students Cindy Rohrback and Cynthia Vacca, received scholarships of $500 each.

Other recipients were:

The American Heart Assn., $5,000 to fund its HeartPower Kits children’s education program.

Arc Ventura County, $4,500 to continue its hepatitis prevention program.

Camp Ronald McDonald, $1,500 to provide camp outings for children with cancer.

Casa Latina, $3,000 for general support.

Channel Islands Multiple Sclerosis, $2,500 for exercise programs.

El Concilio del Condado de Ventura, $1,500 to expand tobacco education and disease prevention programs in Santa Paula and Fillmore.

Get Challenged, $1,500 to provide AIDS awareness and educational materials to area organizations.

Help of Ojai, $3,000 to fund medical and emergency needs for homebound individuals and those with disabilities.

Hospice of the Conejo, $4,000 for general support.

Interface Children, Family Services, $3,000 for its Children’s Resource Program.

Khepera Recovery Homes, $5,000 for its marriage and family counseling services.

Landon Pediatric Foundation, $1,500 for its attention deficit disorder services.

Planned Parenthood, $4,750 for medical equipment.

SEE International, $1,000 for vision care to disadvantaged, medically unserved patients in Ventura County.

St. Joseph’s Health and Retirement Center, $5,000 to purchase equipment for patients.

Tri-Counties Easter Seal Society, $5,000 for building enhancements.

The Wellness Community, $4,000 for facilitator costs to fund a weekly support group for cancer patients.
