Authorities arrested two juveniles Sunday on suspicion of kidnapping after they allegedly forced a 71-year-old man into the trunk of his car and abducted him in Lake Forest.

Two girls, ages 14 and 16, are being held in Juvenile Hall for kidnapping, robbery and carjacking, Sheriff’s Lt. Keith Brown said. The victim was in good condition Sunday night, authorities said.

The girls, both from Santa Ana, allegedly accosted the Leisure World resident while he was coming out of a drugstore on El Toro Road in Lake Forest about 7 a.m., Brown said. The pair used a gun to force the man to drive them to a more isolated area, near El Toro Road and Muirlands Boulevard, then made him get into the trunk of his car, officials said.

The two teenagers parked the car in the 800 block of South Lyons Street in Santa Ana. A woman called Santa Ana police when she heard the man pounding on the car trunk and screaming to be let out, authorities said.

Santa Ana police and sheriff’s deputies arrested the two teenagers nearby after receiving a tip from someone drawn by the commotion, authorities said.

“We got this guy locked in the trunk and screaming, ‘Let me out,’ ” Santa Ana Police Lt. Dave Petko said. “As they popped the trunk and the guy crawled out,” a man at the scene told officers, “the people you want are in Apartment 2,” he said.
