Teachers’ Time

Share

As a high school senior at Tustin High School, I have experienced the many things that teachers can do to waste time. Gov. Pete Wilson has recently proposed that teachers should not be paid for the passing periods between classes. He feels that this passing time is a time in which teachers do nothing and waste time.

I do not think that this man has entered a public high school lately. If he had, he would see that between classes, teachers are not just sitting around, doing nothing. I see that teachers are preparing their lessons for their next class, talking to students and doing many tasks.

Being a teacher requires a lot of preparation and time. Many believe that teachers come into work at 8 a.m. and leave at 2 p.m. Wrong! As a daughter of a public school educator, I see my mother leave before I even wake up, come home after I have eaten dinner and go to work on the weekends.
