Chabot Will Back Up Storr

Because of a bruised thigh suffered by starting goaltender Stephane Fiset at the end of Tuesday’s practice, the Kings plan to recall Frederic Chabot from Houston of the International Hockey League today.

Fiset, who did not practice Wednesday, is listed as doubtful for tonight’s game against Calgary.

Rookie goaltender Jamie Storr will start tonight and is 3-2 with a 2.20 goals-against average. Chabot, who has played in nine games with the Kings this season, will be Storr’s backup.

Storr, who sat out the first two months of the season because of a groin injury, has played well despite sporadic playing time since he was recalled from Long Beach of the IHL on Dec. 17. After shutting out Chicago in his NHL season debut, he lost consecutive games to Phoenix before winning his last two starts against San Jose and Florida.

Coach Larry Robinson said that although Sandy Moger has struggled on offense recently--with only one goal and two points since Dec. 20--he’s not overly concerned about the winger’s play.

“Sometimes, he’s been getting lost defensively . . . and he hasn’t been playing the same way when he first came here,” Robinson said about Moger, acquired in a trade from Boston before the start of the season. “Being strong along the boards, going hard to the net . . . doing the little things.

“He’s been pressing a little bit, but he’s one player that I’m not that worried about because he works hard in practice and is always trying. Sometimes, he may just be trying a little bit too much.”

Left wing Luc Robitaille, who is two points shy of 1,000, is one of four Kings who have played in every game. Jozef Stumpel, Yanic Perreault and Rob Blake are the others.
