Bird in Wrong Place to Be Flown South

A white pelican, rarely seen in the Midwest, is flying home the easy way--on a jet. The bird was apparently swept into northern Illinois by bad weather. But the bird will get a free ride to Tampa, Fla., today. The white pelican, normally found in Western and Southern states, was discovered in mid-December along the Kankakee River south of Chicago.
