FRESHWATER

CASTAIC LAKE--Stripers and largemouth bass active with clearer waters in Upper Lake. Erik Musurlian, Newport Beach, caught nine largemouth bass totaling 25 pounds 5 ounces, on spider jigs. Les Draine, Los Angeles, 12-5 striper, using nightcrawlers. Timmy Flanigan, 4, Palmdale, 5-3 and 4-7 bass, at 20 feet.

LAKE PIRU--Trout biting at the east end and center of lake on Powerbait, with Santa Felica Cove the hottest spot. Trollers using Needlefish, Kastmasters and Rapalas having best luck. Bass active at the east side ledges, taking plastic worms and jigs, at 25 feet.

PYRAMID LAKE--Stripers biting. Top-water fishing with anchovies around the dam working best. Spawning stripers in Serrano area taking anchovies about 30 to 50 feet. Reden Diaz, Canyon Country, five stripers and a catfish, each weighing more than eight pounds, on anchovies at Yellow Bar.

LAKE CACHUMA--Bass scarce but lots of two- to three-pound trout at the east end of lake, biting on Needlefish. Early morning or late evenings best.

LAKE CASITAS--Bass settling at 10-15 deep. Plastic worms working. Sammy Chavez, Oxnard, 12- and five-pound bass, on Deadly Duo at 25 feet at Dear Slope. Lenny Curly, Manhattan Beach, 9-8 bass, on crankbait. Largest catch, Joel Silvestri, Ojai, 22- and 18-pound catfish, on mackerel in Wadleigh Arm. .

CORONA LAKE--Large trout biting on Powerbait near the shore by the dam. Bill Hensley, San Dimas, 11-3 trout and Paul Michael Madrigal, Riverside, nine-pound trout, biggest catches of the week.

SANTA ANA RIVER LAKES--Chris Homstad, Santa Ana, took home a 23-pound 3-ounce sturgeon, on night crawler at Kids Lake. A second 20-pound sturgeon was caught by Chico Cisneros, Torrance, on mackerel at Levitz Corner.

IRVINE LAKE--Limits on rainbow trout for shore anglers along west shore. Powerbait, on a sliding egg sinker with 8-10 inch leader, getting most. Shane Crews, 9, Irvine, 5-8 rainbow, on chartreuse Powerbait. Noe Lopez, Pico Rivera, 10-10 trout, on rainbow Powerbait.

LAGUNA NIGUEL LAKE--Largest catch, a 6-4 trout by Dan Massino of Torrance, on inflated nightcrawler at Tree Pines. Joe Kovak, Laguna Hills, took home a six-pounder.

LAKE SKINNER--Mike Allen, San Bernardino, a 28-pound striper, on a Producer plug. Several stripers weighing more than 10 pounds reported. Trout bite fair on mini-jigs.

LAKE PERRIS--Rich Iannolo, Menifee, 11-6 largemouth bass, using soft trout at the east end of lake. Al Bueno, Perris, 6-4 bass, on soft trout near dam. Plastic worms also working.

SILVERWOOD LAKE--With high water level, fish found at 50 feet near submerged bushes and trees.

SAN DIEGO CITY LAKES--Murray and Miramar Reservoirs are hot spots for trout. Kim Hong, San Diego, caught 10 rainbows, on green Powerbait at San Carlos. Bass and catfish active at Lower Otay. Floyd Talmadge, Chula Vista, 18-1 blue catfish at Harvey.

LAKE CUYAMACA--North Finger Jetty and the flats east of Lone Pine Tree are best for trout, on perfumed inflated crawlers. Sierra Gold with a 12- to 18-inch leader working just as well. .

LOS ANGELES COUNTY--Arroyo Seco Creek, Big Rock Creek, Upper and Lower Big Tujunga Creek, Castaic Lake, Castaic Lagoon, Elizabeth Lake, Little Rock Reservoir, Piru Creek (Frenchman’s Flat). ORANGE--Carr Park Lake, Greer Park Lake, Huntington Park Lake. RIVERSIDE--Lake Perris. SAN DIEGO--Cuyamaca Lake, Lake Morena. VENTURA--Casitas Lake, Matilija Creek, Piru Lake, Reyes Creek, Rose Valley Lake. SANTA BARBARA--Cachuma Lake, Davey Brown Creek, Manzana Creek, Santa Ynez River. SAN LUIS OBISPO--Atascadero Lake, Lopez Lake, Santa Margarita Lake.
