The Coffee Club

Enjoy some peace and quiet in the Java lounge chair, which is part of the latest 36-piece collection by designer Monique Savarese.

Savarese, along with husband Sergio, are the designers and owners of Dialogica, one of the country’s leading makers of contemporary furniture.

Savarese developed the Sava collection because she wanted to design a more affordable line for Dialogica.

Sava is divided into three sections: Americana, Kyoto and Sumatra. Savarese chose to divide the collection this way to “provide a unique balance between aesthetics, comfort and price.

“It is an homage to traditions and life all around the world,” she says.

The Java chairs ($490 each) and Ibu coffee table ($680, 48 inches wide, 28 inches deep and 15 inches high) are part of the Sumatra vision, which celebrates the heritage of primitive worlds.

All of the materials used to make the furnishings--wicker, rattan and reclaimed mahogany--are natural. And the pieces work equally well indoors and out.

“[Sumatra] is a portrait of voyages to Far Eastern civilizations,” Savarese says.

The Sava collection is available at the Dialogica showroom in Los Angeles, 8304 Melrose Ave., (213) 951-1993.

Blanket Issue

Keep yourself covered at the beach, the park or your favorite campsite with the Ground Hog Rug, a durable blanket that has water-resistant nylon on one side and brushed cotton on the other.

The 60-inch-by-60-inch blanket comes with four stakes, which are inserted into the ground at the corners to keep it from blowing away.

The blanket (about $35) is easy to transport because it folds up to a mere 10-inch-by-9-inch package and is housed in a compact carrying case.

The case is small enough that it can be attached to a belt, bicycle or picnic basket.

The blanket is available at the Container Store at Metro Pointe, 901-G South Coast Drive, in Costa Mesa. For more information, call (800) 786-7315.
