Cooper Sets WNBA Records

Cynthia Cooper, who scored 34 points, went 22 for 24 from the free-throw line to set WNBA records for free throws made and attempted as she led the Houston Comets to an 84-67 WNBA victory over the Sacramento Monarchs Friday night at Houston.

Tina Thompson had 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Comets (9-1). Latasha Byears led the Monarchs (2-7) with 15 points and seven rebounds.

The Comets played without Sheryl Swoopes, who was discharged from a hospital earlier Friday following an overnight stay. She collapsed from dehydration during practice on Thursday.

New York 76, Washington 60--Teresa Weatherspoon had 14 points to lead four Liberty players in double figures at New York as the expansion Mystics (1-9) lost their sixth in a row. Rebecca Lobo added 13 for New York (6-5), which improved to 5-0 at home.
