Hearing Scheduled on Proposed Housing Law
The public can attend a hearing tonight on a proposed measure that would replace the city’s existing affordable housing ordinance.
The draft ordinance will be reviewed by a joint meeting of the city’s planning and housing commissions before going to the City Council next week, said Tad Read of the city’s housing division.
The ordinance would allow housing developers in Santa Monica to pay a fee to the city to help fund housing for low- and moderate-income residents, in lieu of building a certain number of units for those residents as part of a given development, as the existing ordinance requires.
The meeting will be at 7 p.m. in City Council Chambers at City Hall, 1685 Main St.
