Council Seeks 4 Gang Task Force Members
Members of youth organizations, religious institutions and the Simi Valley community are being asked to participate in the city’s Community Gang Task Force.
The City Council, seeking a broad cross-section of the community, recently added four positions to the organization to help marshal the city’s resources in tackling the gang problem.
One position is for a representative from a youth organization, one for a ministerial candidate and two for the community at large.
Successful applicants will serve a two-year term beginning in August and will work with other members, such as Police Chief Randy Adams and council members Barbara Williamson and Paul Miller to draft strategies on how to combat gangs.
“We want people who will roll up their sleeves and really make a commitment,” said Lt. Dick Thomas, who is helping to head up the recruitment drive. “Everybody owns a piece of the community, and we all share a responsibility for it, and we want people who feel and understand that.”
Applications may be picked up at the Simi Valley Police Department, 3200 Cochran St.
Application deadline is 5 p.m. July 31.
All applicants will be interviewed Aug. 6 and recommended appointments will be forwarded to the City Council on Aug. 17.
