New Name, Services for Housing Group

Share

Irvine Temporary Housing, a nonprofit group that has helped local families since 1984, has changed its name to Families Forward and expanded its programs, officials announced Tuesday.

The group began 14 years ago as a small collection of Irvine residents who sought to provide temporary shelter for homeless families in crisis and on the verge of homelessness. The program began with five rented houses and has grown to 12 properties.

The new name, Families Forward, better reflects the group’s mission and celebrates its expanded services, spokesman Greg Bradbard said.

Services now include counseling, a food pantry, clothing, job training and referrals, and education in such areas as self-sufficiency and financial decision-making.

The group, based at 6427 Oak Canyon in Irvine, also conducts food and holiday gift drives.
