SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

HOW TO DO IT BIG:

It finally stopped raining, and it’s getting hot. When you go to your closet to look for the minimal thing to wear without being underdressed, the sleeveless linen sheath is the answer.

If you want a designer label, this light tan “flax”-colored linen by New York designer Zoran is the way to go. The price tag is $900.

European designer accessories make the mix. The brown leather chunky-heeled sandals are from the Italian Fendi sisters and are identified by the initial “F” stitched right on the front. They’re $300.

The status watch of the summer is undeniably Gucci. It’s a silver bracelet watch with a black or white “G”-shaped face. It’s available in three sizes--S, M and L. This small size (featured) is $995.

The dress, shoes and watch are all available at Saks Fifth Avenue, Beverly Hills.

The brown, lightweight nylon-and-leather shoulder bag is designed in Italy by Via Spiga. It’s from Bloomingdale’s in the Beverly Center for $285.

TOTAL: $2,480.

HOW TO DO IT FOR LESS

One way to save some bucks but look designer chic on a hot day is to order this “effortless linen” sleeveless sheath from Bloomingdale’s By Mail catalog for $59.99. It comes in four colors--tan (flax), red, olive green and basic black.

The brown chunky-heeled sandal featured here is a real bargain at $49.99. We found it at the brand-new Nine West store in the Beverly Center.

There are cheap bootleg copies of the Gucci watch out there, but if you can’t afford the real thing, why fake it? This silver expansion-band watch by Anne Klein II is $55 from the Bloomingdale’s By Mail catalog.

We found a close copy of the Via Spiga bag in the same department of Bloomingdale’s in the Beverly Center. This one is a steal at $35 from Kenneth Cole’s Reaction line.
