A Santa Paula man has been arrested on suspicion of robbing a woman at gunpoint at a cemetery last month and in the armed hold-up of a gas station in early July, police said Wednesday.

Scott Douglas Herron, 34, remained jailed Wednesday night in lieu of $50,000 bail. He was arrested Tuesday at an apartment on South Catalina Street in Ventura where he had been staying with relatives, police said.

On June 14, an elderly woman visiting a gravesite at Santa Paula Cemetery had her purse grabbed by an armed man who fled on a black motorcycle wearing a full-face, white-colored helmet, Santa Paula Police Det. Carlos Juarez said.

On July 9, a Chevron station on West Main Street in Santa Paula was robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash by an armed gunman who also fled on a black motorcycle wearing a white helmet, Juarez said.

In both cases, the robber struck in the early morning, Juarez said. Detectives have not located the gun used in the robberies or the helmet and motorcycle, he added.

Herron is also being held on suspicion of receiving stolen property for allegedly selling a motorcycle that had been stolen from an Oxnard house, Juarez said. That vehicle has been recovered and returned to its owner.

Herron was scheduled for arraignment at 1:30 p.m. today, according to a sheriff’s deputy at the jail.
