A 3-year-old boy shot in the head last week was “continuing to improve” and was listed in stable condition Sunday at County-USC Medical Center, officials said.

Andrew Monroy was shot Thursday night on the Pomona Freeway in Monterey Park while riding with his father and two brothers, according to Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies.

The bullet struck the boy in the temple, but authorities said it lodged in his scalp and did not enter his skull.

The boy’s father, Thomas Siemantal, 23, also was wounded in the shooting. Siemantal was shot in both hands but was able to drive the car to a nearby sheriff’s station. He was treated and released. Siemantal’s two other sons, including a 7-month-old boy, were not injured.
