Residential, Business Trash Fees Up Slightly
Residents will be paying slightly more to have their trash picked up.
The City Council recently approved a 39-cent residential rate increase, from $13.96 to $14.35 a month.
Councilwoman Maria Moreno voted against the increase, saying it was unfair to raise rates since the county has frozen landfill gate fees.
There was no increase for trash fees last year.
Officials attributed the hike to collection and processing costs, along with an increase in the city’s refuse hauler franchise fee.
Rates for commercial businesses were also slightly increased. The new rates are retroactive to July 1.
