Arts Commission’s Role
In his review of the Los Angeles Mozart Orchestra’s concert version of “The Abduction From the Seraglio,” Mark Swed mistakenly assumed that the Los Angeles County Arts Commission has an artistic role in the presentations on the Summer Nights series at the John Anson Ford Amphitheatre (“Presentation Leads ‘Abduction’ Far Astray,” July 13). The series is a partnership between the presenting group and the county in which the county supplies the theater itself, a technical package, front-of-house services and a marketing framework for the whole season. Each presenter determines and produces what we see on stage.
With more than 1,000 arts organizations in Los Angeles County, the Arts Commission’s job is to assist resident companies in fulfilling their vision, without imposing our own.
