The Original Porgy
Mark Swed’s review of the July 11 Hollywood Bowl Gershwin concert lists Hall Johnson as the “original” Porgy in the Gershwin folk opera. The role was created by the late Todd Duncan. Hall Johnson was a renowned African American choral conductor, best known for the touring choir bearing his name.
