A local charity golf tournament has raised $45,000 to benefit Casa Pacifica, a temporary shelter for abused and neglected children.

More than 100 golfers participated in the sixth annual Care for Kids Golf Classic on Monday at Spanish Hills Golf and Country Club.

When the fund-raiser began, Rotary Club members in Camarillo made a commitment to raise $250,000 over a five-year period. Although the group was one year off the mark, the goal has been met this year.

“It was a big project,” said Al Low, tournament co-chairman.

The money will help pay for educational programs and housing for the more than 1,000 children that Casa Pacifica serves.
