Like father, like son: Guitarist-composer Anthony Wilson, son of respected composer-bandleader Gerald Wilson, brings a modern feel to his scintillating, out-of-the-tradition jazz charts. His nonet, celebrating the release of a new MAMA label CD, “Goat Hill Junket,” plays as part of the Skirball Cultural Center’s free “Sunset Concerts.” The series continues Aug. 6 with the Mancini Institute Jazz Ensemble featuring Billy Childs, Aug. 13 with Turkish musician Faruk Tekbilek, Aug. 20 with the Lionel Cole Quintet and Aug. 27 with the world music-jazz quartet Diaspora.

8pm: Multimedia Performance

“XX: The Happening (20 Years 20 Performers 20 Bucks),” a multimedia celebration of 20 years of art at Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions with John Fleck, Weba Garretson, Sandra Tsing Loh and other noted artists, takes over the Hollywood Athletic Club tonight. There’s also a post-show dance party.
