The Dye Is Cast for Moviedom’s Bad-Girl Blonds

Here’s a quick look at some recent movies in which blond ambition served both as the source of villainy and as a comic foil:

“The Parent Trap”: Meredith (Elaine Hendrix), a publicist with a heart of liquid nitrogen, tries to lure an eligible divorced millionaire into marriage. Instead, she winds up doing battle with his twin daughters, who nearly get her to swallow a live lizard before she cries uncle.

“Ever After”: This live-action version of the Cinderella story that opens Friday has the requisite evil stepmother and two stepsisters, but only one of them is evil. Guess which one? The blond, of course. She’s the utterly wicked Marguerite played by Megan Dodds as a 16th century upwardly mobile schemer.

“It Takes Two”: Similar in many ways to “Parent Trap” (except this time the twins are played by actual twins, Mary Kate and Ashley Olson), this one features Jane Sibbett (better known as Ross’ ex-wife on “Friends”) as the blond who wants to marry the widowed father of one of the girls. But the twins (who, according to the plot, are not related but merely coincidentally identical) team up to, among other things, stick gum in her hair and foil her wedding plans at the altar.

“Addams Family Values”: Joan Cusack dons the golden tresses as Debbie Jellinsky, a female Bluebeard who preys on naive millionaires like Christopher Lloyd’s Uncle Fester. But she falls victim to--but of course--children, in this case, the day-saving interference of Wednesday, Pugsley and baby Pubert.

“The Opposite of Sex”: As vixens go, Christina Ricci’s Dedee Truitt is one of the most knowing, wreaking havoc in the personal lives of everyone she comes in contact with, only to wind up succumbing to the very maternal instincts she spends the film bad-mouthing--in other words, another blond foiled by a kid (her own).
