In his first full season as a professional, Jon Garland is getting a taste of baseball’s business side.

Garland, City Section 4-A Division player of the year in 1997 for Kennedy High, was traded Wednesday by the Chicago Cubs to the Chicago White Sox for reliever Matt Karchner.

Garland was 4-7 with a 5.03 earned-run average in 19 games with the Rockford (Ill.) Cubbies of the Class-A Midwest League. The right-hander allowed two runs in 6 1/3 innings in a 10-3 victory over Ft. Wayne on Tuesday.
