Knott’s Quiets Ride at Neighbors’ Request

Share

The scream is no longer so supreme.

Residents who have complained about a loud mechanical noise coming from Knott’s Berry Farm’s new Supreme Scream ride said Thursday that modifications completed to the attraction overnight have made it quieter.

Neighbors on El Paso Circle had complained that noise from the ride was so irritating that they usually stayed indoors with the windows shut.

Knott’s responded this week with a pledge to add new valves and a diffuser that would make the air- and cable-powered ride softer on the ears.

“The noise is significantly reduced,” resident Sue Peterson said. “I think Knott’s has really followed through.”

Knott’s officials said they worked overnight to make the improvements.

Sound experts hired by Knott’s and the city are expected to study noise levels today.

Since opening July 3, Supreme Scream has become a landmark. At 312 feet, it’s the tallest structure in Orange County.
