Pedestrian, Bicycle Safety to Be Discussed

Share

The city will hold a two-day workshop Friday and Saturday to study pedestrian and bicycle safety problems along Santa Monica Boulevard.

“The higher proportion of the fatalities in our city are related to people on bicycles and walking,” said transportation manager Lucy Dyke.

From 1991-1996, the most recent data available, 12 pedestrians were killed in traffic accidents along the thoroughfare, which is double the statewide per-capita average, Dyke said.

Friday’s workshop will discuss safety concerns and Saturday’s meeting will discuss possible solutions.

Both will begin at 9 a.m. in the community conference room at City Hall, 8300 Santa Monica Blvd.
