Brush Fire Sweeps Across 10 Acres
Firefighters Thursday squashed a brush fire that had swept about 10 acres of grassland from the north end of Cochran Street, far from homes or businesses.
Authorities said they are investigating how the blaze started. There were no injuries.
Four fire engines, three hand crews, a helicopter and a bulldozer arrived at the scene of the fire, which began about 4:20 p.m. The crews had the fire contained by 5:32 p.m. and, another 90 minutes later had extinguished it completely.
Mild wind conditions helped the crews, said Karen Nelson, a dispatcher with the Ventura County Fire Department.
