Road Extension
Re “Councilman Suggests Changes on Borchard,” May 31.
The fears about the proposed extension to Borchard Road will be alleviated only when the road is built to standards that Thousand Oaks already has in place for a standard secondary limited access road, which include a maximum gradient of 5% and adequate sight distance.
The city standards are essentially the same as those used in other municipalities, all of the states and the federal government. These standards are based on the laws of physics. With only small variances, there is universal agreement that these are the standards to be followed to ensure that a road is built safely.
Build the road to city standards. Only then should we worry about the aesthetics of the hillside.
