A bicyclist was hit by a Jeep on Monday morning as she tried to recover some items she had dropped while riding, police said.
The woman, whose identity has not been released, was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange in critical condition, Sgt. Les Robinson said.
The woman was riding south on Springdale Street toward Heil Avenue about 9:45 a.m. when it appeared something fell from her bicycle onto the street, witnesses told police. After riding a few feet, she made a U-turn in an attempt to pick up the property and turned into the path of oncoming traffic. A Jeep Cherokee hit the bicyclist and knocked her to the ground, Robinson said.
Police are continuing to investigate the accident, Robinson said.
