A teenager was killed Monday afternoon in a shooting investigators said appears to be gang-related, Lt. Bob Chavez said.

Police identified the victim as Esteban Garcia, 16, of Santa Ana.

Officers were called to the 1100 block of South Sullivan Street at 12:34 p.m. Monday in response to reports of a possible shooting, Chavez said. When officers arrived, they did not find any evidence of a shooting.

Later that afternoon, they received a call from Coastal Communities Hospital about a patient who had arrived with a gunshot wound to the upper torso, Chavez said.

Police went to the hospital to interview Garcia, who later died from his wounds, and friends who had driven the victim to the hospital.
