*** Various artists, “Largo,” Mercury. Inspired by Dvorak’s Americana-drenched Symphony No. 9, this cycle of songs and instrumentals--co-produced by Rick Chertoff and ex-Hooter Rob Hyman--celebrates indigenous folk traditions with wistful, accessible melodies and Celtic-flavored roots-pop arrangements. Well-cast appearances by the Chieftains, Levon Helm, Joan Osborne and Cyndi Lauper lend extra warmth and grit.
