Kingman Earns Cal League Honor

Brendan Kingman of Lancaster was chosen Cal League player of the month for May after batting .448 with 43 hits, 23 runs, 20 runs batted in, eight doubles and four home runs in 26 games. Kingman, 25, a native of Sydney, Australia, is second in the league with a .357 batting average. . . . Lancaster right-hander Patrick Dunham is a late add to the Valley Division team for the Cal League all-stars, making five JetHawk all-stars. Dunham is 7-3 with a 2.16 earned-run average in 12 starts.

The JetHawks (39-29) had their seven-game winning streak stopped in a 4-3 loss to the Modesto A’s at Modesto. Canabo Cosme drove in Mike Wolf on a squeeze bunt in the eighth inning to break a 3-3 tie. Kingman had two hits, including a run-scoring single for Lancaster. In the eighth, Luis Tinoco had a pinch-hit, run-scoring single and Anton French drove in a run on a groundout to tie the score, 3-3.

SUNS

Bernie Nunez and Rafael Ozuna each had two hits for the Suns, but they lost, 4-3, to the Grays Harbor Gulls in a Western League game at Oxnard College.

Nunez scored twice and Ozuna had two stolen bases for the Suns (5-14), who got a complete game from Ken Krahenbuhl (0-2).

Krahenbuhl gave up nine hits, struck out two and walked one.

Grays Harbor is 9-11.
