Vigilantes’ Ervin Stops Tri-City, 9-0
Kent Ervin gave up eight hits over 7 1/3 innings, giving up two walks and striking out two, as the Vigilantes defeated Tri-City, 9-0, in a Western Baseball League game Saturday night in front of an announced crowd of 2,452 at Saddleback College.
Mike Parisi finished the eighth inning and Josh Belovsky pitched the ninth to complete the shutout for the Vigilantes (10-11).
Brad Gennaro led the Vigilantes’ offense, which had 13 hits, including four home runs.
Gennaro had a double, a triple and a home run. Brian Grebeck, Michael Moore and Manny Gagliano had the other home runs for the Vigilantes. Moore has hit two home runs in two games since joining the team.
Gennaro started the scoring with a first-inning triple and scored on a groundout by Michael Moore.
In the second inning, Tim McDonnell singled and scored on Gagliano’s home run. After the home run, Gennaro later got his second hit, a double which scored Robert Muro and Bodie Shepherd. The three runs in the second gave the Vigilantes a 4-0 lead.
The Vigilantes were held scoreless twice in the game, in the third and the seventh innings.
Grebeck hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning to push the Vigilantes’ lead to 6-0.
McDonnell got a run batted in in the fifth inning when he doubled home Alan Burke, who had doubled earlier in the inning.
Moore homered in the sixth inning and Gennaro homered in the eighth inning to finish the scoring for the Vigilantes.
The two teams conclude their three game series at 5:35 p.m. today at Saddleback College, with Kirk Irvine on the mound for the Vigilantes and Joe Elias for the Posse (9-12).
