Simi Valley police were searching Monday for a man who held a woman at knifepoint, took her to a remote construction site and stabbed her in the chest during an attempted rape.

After the woman experienced car trouble in a residential neighborhood about 10:50 p.m. Sunday, she accepted a ride from a man she did not know, police said.

The man then took her to a construction site and attempted to rape her, police said, stabbing her when she resisted.

“There was some kind of sexual advance, which was denied, and then she was stabbed,” said Det. John Parks, who was hoping to interview the victim in detail Monday afternoon at Simi Valley Hospital. “I really don’t know much more than that at this point.”

The woman escaped from the car and fled.

Neighbors who heard her cries for help assisted her until emergency personnel arrived. She was admitted to Simi Valley Hospital’s intensive care unit with a chest wound and a punctured lung.

A police K-9 unit combed the area for clues but found nothing, police said.

The woman told police her attacker was a white male in his 30s, relatively short and lightweight with light brown hair and a slight mustache. She said he might be driving a mid-sized silver or like-colored four-door vehicle and that he might have been wounded when she struggled with him.

Anyone with information on the case should call Simi Valley police at 583-6950.
