Franklin Telecom Names 3 to Top FNet Positions

Franklin Telecom in Westlake Village has made three executive appointments to key positions at FNet Corp., its company subsidiary that is developing products to make long-distance phone calls via the Internet.

FNet Chief Executive James L. Magruder said Kevin Kuykendall joined the company as president and chief operating officer, along with Stephen Smith, who was appointed controller, and Enrique G. Serna, who will serve as general counsel for both FNet and its parent company.

In addition to being appointed president and chief operating officer, Kuykendall was elected to FNet's board of directors. Prior to coming to FNet, he was president and CEO of an international phone company and oversaw the creation of numerous corporate global networks for Mobil Oil, Honeywell and Baxter Healthcare, among others.

Before joining the company, Smith was president and chief operating officer for Classic Communications Inc., a cable and communications company in Austin, Texas, that he helped found in 1992.

Serna had been general partner for Serna & Associates, based in San Antonio and Miami.
