Brush Fire Burns 15 Acres Near Country Club

VALENCIA — A brush fire blackened about 15 acres near Valencia Country Club on Monday afternoon before it was extinguished by Los Angeles County firefighters.
No injuries were reported and no structures were damaged in the fire, which burned in an area not far from the Golden State Freeway between Valencia Boulevard and Magic Mountain Parkway. County fire officials said it started about 12:10 p.m. and burned for 45 minutes.
Golfers on the course, apparently unfazed by the burning hillside above them, continued to play as firefighters directed water on the flames.
Fire Inspector Henry Rodriguez said officials were unsure of the cause of the fire, which began in a gully adjacent to the golf course.
“It burned around the golf course. The green grass helped by working as a firebreak on one side,” Rodriguez said.
