Share

Wildfire training will be conducted today in the area of Shepherds Flat near Cheeseboro Canyon Road by the Ventura County Fire Protection District, the National Park Service and the California Department of Forestry.

The training is within the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area and will continue through Sept. 17.

Fire crews will engage in live-fire training on small vegetation fires, while practicing fire-line construction.

The county’s fire protection district and the National Park Service are also working with the Air Pollution Control District on smoke management.

Although some smoke will be present in such canyon areas as Bell Canyon, Agoura Hills, Hidden Hills, Las Virgenes and Liberty, the amount is not expected to be substantial, said a fire department spokesman.
