Ventura County leaders have chosen to stay in-house in their search for a new Information Systems Department director, promoting assistant Matt Carroll to the top job.

The Board of Supervisors announced Tuesday following a closed session that it has hired Carroll, who has worked in county government for eight years, most recently as manager for computer applications.

He beat out an unidentified finalist from an information systems department in another county.

Carroll’s salary range is $70,618 to $101,747, according to the county’s Human Resources Department.

In addition to dealing with some of the more pressing challenges facing the county, such as dealing with the year 2000 computer crisis and developing a tracking system to monitor welfare reform, Carroll hopes to develop a more forward-thinking approach to technology in county government.

“I hope to transform us into an organization that has a bigger plan,” said Carroll, 39.
