Irvine Valley College Has 45 Jobs for Welfare Recipients

Irvine Valley College is accepting applications for its AmeriCorps Literacy Program, which provides career training and work experience through community service at local elementary schools and preschools.

The college is seeking welfare recipients to fill 45 positions in the AmeriCorps program. Service will begin in August.

In partnership with the Irvine and Tustin unified school districts and the Orange County Social Services Agency, each AmeriCorps participant will complete 900 hours in a "learn and serve" contract. Members will provide literacy tutoring to children in preschool through third grade.

The college began its AmeriCorps Literacy Program in January, with 45 members working in Irvine and Tustin schools. They will complete their training in the fall.
