Thousand Oaks General Plan

Share

I’d like to give a little history lesson on our General Plan before all the campaign rhetoric reaches such a high pitch that only dogs can hear it.

My wife and I have been active in Thousand Oaks for many years and so have our children and their families. There are three generations of us living in Thousand Oaks right now and we hope to have more in time.

First, densities in our General Plan cannot be increased without a vote of the people. It never has been in our 30-year history and it never will be because Measure E was passed in 1996 making it a law; 75% of the voters passed that measure, written by Councilman Andy Fox.

Second, all developments that we now see being built were approved as part of our General Plan many years before any of our current council was elected. The city had planned for Dos Vientos, Lang Ranch and Woodridge as had the school district. The only votes being taken now are those on infrastructure such as roads, grading and design. Anyone who tells you these developments were approved in the last five years or could be stopped by the current council is either ill-informed or misleading you.

And third, our City Council has almost always been made up of council members who disagreed and debated for the good of the city. Fox and Judy Lazar have been protecting our General Plan for years--first as planning commissioners, then supporting Measure E, and in their vigilant battles to get the truth out about our General Plan. That plan has never been breached in our city’s history and they are the ones who have made sure it never will be.
