Sanchez’s Single Is Game-Winner in Eighth Inning

Cameron Sanchez singled home the winning run with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning to give Sunland Tujunga Verdugo Hills an 11-10 victory over Granada Hills in an American Legion District 20 baseball game Saturday at Sunland Tujunga Senior Little League Field.

Seth Craig singled, moved to second on a walk and went to third on a fielder’s choice before scoring the winning run. He had three hits.

Sunland Tujunga Verdugo Hills (2-11) stopped an 11-game losing streak.

In other District 20 games:

Canyon Country Canyon 8, Palmdale 4--Mike Munn hit a two-run home run in the first and another two-run shot in the sixth for Canyon Country Canyon (8-7) at Palmdale High.

Newhall Saugus Hart 18, Valencia 8--Mike Granger went four for five and drove in three runs for Newhall Saugus Hart (12-4) at Valencia High.

Encino Crespi 12-10, Van Nuys 6-7--Kris Palomares had three hits, an RBI and scored three runs in the opener and picked up the victory in relief in the second game to give Encino Crespi (13-2) a sweep at Valley College.

San Fernando 11, Quartz Hill Paraclete 8--Francisco Enriquez hit a grand slam in the first and teammate Efrain Carmargo had three hits for San Fernando (3-11) at Paraclete High.

Van Nuys Birmingham 4, West Hills Chaminade 2--Joey Rubin (3-3) had two hits, one RBI and scored a run for Van Nuys Birmingham (10-6) at Chaminade High.

Woodland Hills Taft 5, North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake 0--Travis Rutter, Jon Meier and Francisco Lopez combined on a three-hitter for Woodland Hills Taft (6-5-1) at Franklin Field in Encino.

Van Nuys Notre Dame 18, North Hollywood West 2--James Rivero and Ryan Stonerock each had two hits, three RBIs and scored twice for Van Nuys Notre Dame (13-1) in the game at Notre Dame High that was called after 4 1/2 innings because of the 10-run rule.

In District 16 games:

Oxnard 10-7, Simi Valley 4-5--Joe Garcia hit a run-scoring double in the second and a two-run double in the third of the second game to help Oxnard (5-9) sweep a doubleheader at Simi Valley High.
