SAN DIEGO--There will be a bevy of blooms at the San Diego County Orchid Society’s 52nd annual show and sale, “Jungle Gems,” March 13-15. Hundreds of varieties, including rare hybrids, will be on display. SAN FRANCISCO--This city’s St. Patrick’s Day procession turns 146 this year. Bands, floats, equestrians and fire engines will be among more than 200 entries. 12:45 p.m. March 15 along Market Street, beginning at Market and 7th streets. TRONA--Get ready to do the second annual Spring Fling on March 21. Events include a parade at 11 a.m., with floats, clowns, cars and more, along Telescope Street. A street fair, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. along Trona Frontage Road, will feature carnival-type games; arts, crafts and food vendors; a horseshoe tournament; and a display of classic cars. Free admission. FORT BRAGG--The city salutes the great gray whale by having a whale of a good time. Whale Festival activities March 21 include chowder tasting ($5 for four 4-ounce tastes), microbrew beer tasting ($15 for 15 tastes), arts and crafts vendors, a classic car show, and an antique doll show. 10 a.m.-5 p.m. (though hours of some activities vary) along Main, Laurel and Franklin streets.
