School Bus Attack

* Re “Gang Members Attack Ventura School Bus,” Feb. 26.

As I started reading this article my heart beat faster and outrage seeped in. First, I apologize to the students who suffered the experience. Second, I applaud all those who tried to do something about the situation.

To the attackers I say, “Shame on you!” I can’t believe you deviants had the audacity to even undertake such actions. Nothing is gained with violence, so lose the primitive instinct. Inspiring fear does not make you a human or a man for that matter. Be a real person and take on some responsibility. There are many other problems in this world and you shouldn’t be the genesis of more. Don’t you have anything better to do? You disgust me.

To society I say: The problem of gang violence will only grow and fester unless we do something about it. Society needs to take a stand to let deviants know that such actions will not be tolerated.

Deviants who violate the codes of society should be met with the wisest and, if need be, harshest response possible. Deviants must learn to fit into society and respect the natural right for people to exist peacefully.

We as a society need to instill in them a respect for life. This could potentially be achieved through several means. Some ideas are helping the homeless or people with disabilities. Of course this should be done from a distance, so the deviant cannot harm the people, but close enough so that the deviant can see the daily struggles that some go through to merely survive.

Maybe they could clean homeless shelters to realize the value of a roof. Maybe serve food to the disadvantaged to realize the value of a fully functioning body. Maybe hard labor to show how hard some work to earn enough to eat. They need to realize how lucky they are to simply be alive, healthy and living in a free society. May justice persevere.
