Ex-TV Weatherman Files Suit, Alleges Racial Bias

Share

Former weatherman Maclovio Perez sued CBS Channel 2 Tuesday, alleging he was fired in 1996 because he is dark-complexioned and speaks with an accent.

Perez’s suit, filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, seeks unspecified damages.

A spokesman for the television station could not immediately be reached.

The suit alleges that “CBS and other Los Angeles television broadcasts engaged in a pattern and practice of terminating and/or demoting without cause ethnically characteristic Latinos.”

The former weatherman says the news organization fired or demoted “Latinos who are ‘unassimilated’ and replaces them with assimilated Hispanic employees.”

He claims he was replaced in 1996 by another weatherman, who had a Latino surname, fair complexion and no accent.
