Robert Troutman; Community College Educator
Robert Troutman, 92, civic and community colleges leader. The Millersburg, Pa., native attended Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, Pa., and taught high school before earning a master’s degree at New York University. During World War II, he became a Navy lieutenant commander, and he earned France’s Croix de Guerre for his actions in the Normandy invasion. On the 50th anniversary of that battle, he received the American Order of the French Croix de Guerre. Troutman served 10 years as dean of men at San Bernardino Valley College and became a consultant in secondary and college education and director of curriculum for the Los Angeles Community College District. He was active in the Boy Scouts, Masons, the Red Cross and groups serving the elderly, including the Area Agency on Aging of Los Angeles. On Feb. 21 in Claremont.
