Angels Just Forgot to Check the Statistics
It is interesting to read that the Angels are “pleased” with the results of Garret Anderson’s supposed trading of power for average since 1995. Let’s see, he batted .321 and slugged .505 in 1995. In the two years since then, his slugging has dropped to .405 and .409. How much higher a batting average has he traded for? Well, he’s hit .285 and .303. Looks to me like he sacrificed both average and power!
The March 11 article contains a comparison to Wade Boggs, which is absurd. Boggs is a guy who would walk 90-100 times a year, while a good season for Anderson is 30.
What is there to be pleased about? Anderson hits for a decent but not great average, has no power, can’t tell a ball from a strike, and is a subpar RBI producer.
